About Grok
Grok is the AI assistant from xAI, Elon Musk’s AI company, and it comes with one capability no other major chatbot can match: real-time, unfiltered access to the entire X (Twitter) firehose. Ask Grok what’s trending, who’s saying what about a breaking news story, or what the sentiment is around a product launch — and it reads actual X posts in real time to answer you.
Grok-3, the latest model, is competitive with GPT-4o and Claude 3.5 Sonnet on reasoning benchmarks, especially for math and science. The “Think” mode enables extended chain-of-thought reasoning for problems that need step-by-step breakdown. DeepSearch goes further: it autonomously searches the web, reads multiple sources, and synthesizes a cited answer — similar to Perplexity’s approach but integrated into the Grok interface.
On content policy, Grok is notably less restrictive than ChatGPT or Claude. It will engage with edgier creative writing, discuss controversial topics more directly, and generally comply with unusual requests that other models refuse. This is a deliberate design choice, positioning Grok as the “anti-censorship” AI.
Aurora, Grok’s image generation model, produces photorealistic outputs that benchmark well against DALL-E 3 and Stable Diffusion XL, with fewer content restrictions on what you can generate.
Free access on X.com gives limited Grok interactions. SuperGrok ($30/month, requiring X Premium+) unlocks full model access, higher usage limits, and DeepSearch. For X power users, Grok is a natural fit. For everyone else, the X dependency is a real friction point.
